The 60/60 Farce
[under construction - be patient]

This article will be posted soon.  Long story short... The old rule of 60/60 is outdated and has been proven wrong using state of the art laser optics and computer analysis with a concentrated emphasis on light return.  The concept is that a diamond with a 60% Total Depth and a 60% Table Diameter automatically had Crown and Pavilion Angle measurements which would result in optimum light return. The reality is that the concept of 60/60 is nothing more than a marketing gimmick for the simple minded. We have seen 60/60 diamonds with overall proportions ratings as high as AGS-2 Very Good and as low as AGS-10 Poor... Considering the fact that a diamond with a proportions rating of AGS-4 Good has a light return of about 70% we don't think you want to put a diamond with a proportions rating of AGS-9 Poor on your fiancées finger.  Although we purchased the rights to use the ice graphic on the front page of our web site that features a diamond cut like a 60/60 because well... we thought the graphic was cool and that's what the designer used.  Anytime you're in the mood to make us a fresh graphic with a diamond drawn to ideal proportions we're all about it - personally, we're not that talented.

This is a page from our original site, please click here to visit our current site!

If you are looking for optimum visual performance and simply don't have time to sift through a thousand diamonds cut to non-ideal proportions in hopes of finding the few that perform, then save yourself some grief and focus on diamonds with Zero Ideal Cut Proportions. The average light return for a Zero Ideal Cut Diamond is somewhere in the range of 96% and 98% where the average light return for an AGS-10 Poor is around 40% with 60% leaking out the sides and bottom of the stone...  We don't waste our time with the 60/60 concept because it's an obsolete idea that is often promoted by retail jewelers and diamond dealers who simply don't want to take the time to deal with precision.
