The 2018 Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender will be held soon, following viewings of the collection in Sydney, Hong Kong, and New York.

“I am delighted to unveil this stunning Argyle Alpha™ diamond, the largest Vivid Pink diamond presented since the Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender began in 1984” said chief executive J-S Jacques of Rio Tinto.

“Rio Tinto’s Argyle mine is the world’s only source of these highly coveted pink, red, and violet diamonds, and we expect considerable interest in this year’s collection. The combination of strong demand and extremely limited world supply continues to support significant value appreciation for Argyle pink diamonds.”

In honor of the Argyle Mine’s role in producing some of the world’s most coveted diamonds, the 2018 Argyle Pink Diamond Tender is named the Magnificent Argyle. This year’s diamond tender features 63 fancy pink, red, and violet diamonds weighing a combined total of 51.48 carats.

It is said to exhibit an unrivaled potency of color and is expected to be the focus of intense bidding among collectors. Lot #9 includes a second purplish-red fancy color diamond that was cut from the same piece of 7.39 carat rough.

Fancy Pink Diamond Prices:

Fancy Intense Pink Cushion Cut Diamond from Brian Gavin, 344105-ee808Now. I don’t know about you, but these fancy pink diamonds are out of my league. Check out the price on this 0.70 carat, K-c0lor, VS-1 clarity, fancy intense pink cushion cut diamond from Brian Gavin and you’ll know why.

This 1.00 carat, SI-1 clarity, fancy intense pink color cushion cut diamond from Brian Gavin has a higher intensity of color and breaks the one-carat mark so it’s considerably more expensive.

Factors such as the color and intensity of color influence the price of fancy color diamonds in addition to the normal characteristics such as clarity and carat weight. Another factor that many people are not aware of are the price increases that occur at the magic marks, such as between 0.89 – 0.90 carats and 0.99 – 1.00 carats.

The difference in the price per carat of fancy pink diamonds explains part of the reason why the 0.70 carat costs $90K and the 1.00 carat costs $250K. With that in mind, you can imagine the value of the fancy pink Argyle diamonds in this year’s tender.
