“I’m wondering whether you’ve ever seen the Sarah Halo setting by Brian Gavin in person? And if you have seen the ring, what do you think about it? Based upon the diamonds which we’ve seen locally, we think that something between 1.70 – 2.00 carats look best.”

“The two-carat diamond she tried on looks a bit big and the 1.50 carat diamond looked a bit small. So we figure that something in the 1.70+ carat range will be just right. Do you think that the Sarah Halo setting will look good with a diamond that size? Last but not least, I’d like to keep the cost of the engagement ring between 20 – 25K.”

“Do you think that is a satisfactory budget for an engagement ring? And can you make some recommendations for a center stone? We both have really sharp eyes, so what would you recommend for clarity?”

“We’re open to the possibility of an eye clean SI-1, but VS-2 might be better. We’re more flexible on diamond color, especially after reading your tutorial on diamond color grading. Thank you for writing that article, we found it quite helpful.”

Brian Gavin Sarah Halo Setting Review:

Brian Gavin Sarah Halo setting reviews, side tilt

As a matter of fact, I have seen the Sarah Halo setting by Brian Gavin in-person and it is exquisite! I was out visiting Brian Gavin about two years ago, and they were just putting the finishing touches on one. That ring was set with a 1.60 carat center stone. I know for sure that anything in the 1.50 – 2.00 carat range will look fantastic.

I don’t know whether you know this or not, but Brian Gavin makes each engagement ring from scratch. They’re going to custom make the Sarah Halo setting to fit whichever center stone you choose. This is a critical difference that sets Brian Gavin apart from other jewelry stores. Most engagement rings are built to accommodate a range of center stone sizes. For instance, a ring like this might be designed to hold a center stone weighing between 1.50 – 1.75 carats. Unfortunately the one size fits all approach rarely works…

Notice how the diamond fits the Sarah Halo setting perfectly!

Do you see how the diamond set in the Sarah Halo setting fits perfectly in the preceding photograph? That’s because Brian Gavin custom makes each setting from scratch! The center stone is never going to look too small or too large for the ring. The size of the center stone will always fit the ring perfectly. Thus the ratio between the ring and the center stone is always going to look just right.

Another thing that I really like about the Sarah Halo setting by Brian Gavin, is that it is incredibly comfortable. In fact, the Sarah Halo is probably the most comfortable halo setting that I’ve ever tried on. It didn’t really fit my finger of course, but the ring felt good on the tip of my finger.

Brian Gavin Sarah Halo setting reviews, pave undercarriage

The design of the Sarah Halo is very sleek and the edges of the ring were nice and smooth. I really like the pavé set diamonds on the undercarriage under the prongs. They add that extra touch that you won’t find in most halo settings. It’s very eye-catching and accentuates the center stone beautifully. This is definitely one of my favorite halo ring styles!

By the way, I recommend that you order the matching wedding band at the same time as the engagement ring. This ensures that the engagement ring and wedding band will fit together perfectly. Otherwise, you’ll have to send the Sarah Halo setting back to Brian Gavin to ensure a proper fit. The matching band is the same ring that fits with the Novela setting. The Brian Gavin Coupon that I sent you will save you some $cratch on the setting.

This 1.915 carat, G-color, VS-2 clarity, Brian Gavin Signature round diamond is on the high side of your budget. It would look truly spectacular set in the Sarah Halo setting by Brian Gavin. No doubt about it. The heart pattern indicates that the diamond exhibits the highest degree of optical precision. Fewer than 0.001% of round brilliant cut diamonds exhibit this degree of precision.

The diamond has an overall cut grade of AGS Ideal-0 which is a great start. However, the proportions criteria for the AGS Ideal cut rating are rather broad by my standards. The proportions of this diamond are right on target from my perspective! The 40.8 degree pavilion angle should produce the highest volume of light return. The 34.5 degree crown angle should produce a virtual balance of brilliance and dispersion.

The combination of the 77% lower girdle facet length and higher optical precision should produce broad-spectrum sparkle. That translates into larger, bolder, brighter, more vivid sparkle than what most ideal cut diamonds produce.

Sarah Halo setting by Brian Gavin reviews

One thing I want to mention is that halo settings are a great way to make a center stone look bigger! The outer halo of diamonds serves to increase the visible diameter of the sparkle. Thus every one of the diamonds in this article is going to look like a two-carat round once the halo effect is taken into account. Halo settings are a fantastic way to maximize the sparkle factor of any price range!

I hope you enjoyed reading this review of the Sarah Halo setting by Brian Gavin. As you might expect, I held off publishing this blog post until my client had a chance to choose the diamond.
