I’m so excited about the release of the Brian Gavin Signature Cushion Cut Diamond, that I thought I’d sift through their inventory and select a few that I wouldn’t mind receiving as an engagement ring if I were a woman.

Don’t even ask how I got into the mindset to write this article, it all started with a post that a friend of mine made on Facebook pertaining to women, diamonds, and chocolate. I showed her the video for this diamond, then she got all depressed about being single, and by the time the conversation was over, I felt like a chick.

Hearts pattern within a Brian Gavin Signature Cushion Cut Diamond

One of the things which sets the Brian Gavin Signature Cushion Cut Diamond apart from other cushion cut diamonds is the squarish design, symmetrical proportions, and the presence of a crisp and complete pattern of Hearts & Arrows.

The hearts pattern pictured to the left is visible in every Brian Gavin Signature Cushion Cut Diamond and requires an amazing level of Optical Symmetry to create!

Of course, all of the diamonds have an overall cut grade of AGS Ideal-0 on the Platinum Light Performance grading platform, which is an incredible feat because very few fancy cut diamonds are graded this highly for polish, symmetry, proportions and light return.

While there are plenty of options to consider under the 1.00 carat mark, I decided to consider options weighing more than that because I’m still mourning the loss of the 1.77 carat, I-color, VS-2 clarity, Brian Gavin Signature Cushion Cut Diamond which they sent me for evaluation and then asked me to send back… what’s up with that?!?!

The first option which I found really tempting is this 1.392 carat, H-color, VS-2 clarity, Brian Gavin Signature Cushion Cut Diamond, which measures 7.47 x 6.27 x 4.59 mm, which might seem kind of rectangular. However, I assure you that it looks square, this article explains how these diamonds are measured.

According to the AGSL, the diamond has a total depth of 61.4% with a table diameter of 56.6% and a crown angle of 34.2 degrees which is offset by a pavilion angle of 41.1 degrees with a thin to slightly thick, faceted girdle and a pointed culet.

The primary inclusions are small feathers, diamond crystals, and clouds of pinpoint size diamond crystals.  This diamond is a really cool option, because it is significantly larger than a carat, but smaller than a carat-and-a-half, so you pick up the size without being subjected to the price increase which occurs between the 1.49 – 1.50 carat marks… there are very few diamonds produced in this weight range and I doubt that it’s going to last very long.

Brian Gavin Blue Cushion Cut Diamond, AGS #104065157009

On that note, this 1.496 carat, F-color, VVS-2 clarity, Brian Gavin Signature Cushion Cut Diamond with medium blue fluorescence is a must have!

OMG Brian must have been crying when this diamond came in weighing less than 1.50 carats! OUCH is all I’ve got to say… Oh well, his loss is your gain, if you’re looking for a carat-and-a-half, this is definitely the ticket!

It has an overall cut grade of AGS Ideal-0 and measures 7.55 x 6.51 x 4.66 mm with a total depth of 61.7% and a table diameter of 54.6% with a crown angle of 33.7° offset by a pavilion angle of 40.9° with a thin to slightly thick, faceted girdle. And the blue fluorescence is to die for! Don’t think, just grab it. Now!

ASET for Brian Gavin Signature Cushion Cut Diamond, AGS #104066027005

This is the output from the Angular Spectrum Evaluation Tool (ASET) scan which is provided on the diamond grading report for this 1.760 carat, G-color, VS-2 clarity, Brian Gavin Signature Cushion Cut Diamond. It looks excellent with even distribution of light throughout the diamond!

Very few round brilliant cut diamonds survive being subjected to the AGSL ASET technology, let alone fancy shape diamonds like cushion cuts!

An overall cut grade of AGS Ideal-0 for a fancy cut diamond is pretty rare and Brian Gavin has figured out how to get it consistently for this new patented cut! Just wait until you feast your eyes on this Drop Dead Gorgeous Puppy!

So this diamond measures 8.19 x 6.74 x 4.67 mm which is going to face up pretty large! Keep in mind that the 8.19 mm is the diagonal measurement of the diamond, the article which I linked to previously will show you how the diameter of this diamond compares to a round.

You can see from the ASET image that the diamond looks squarish and exhibits a very nice pattern of arrows.  The total depth of this diamond is 60.6% with a 55.8% table diameter and a crown angle of 33.6 degrees which is offset by a pavilion angle of 40.7 degrees with a thin to medium, faceted girdle and no culet. The primary inclusions are a few clouds of pinpoint size diamond crystals, crystals and small feathers, nothing substantial.

Next up we have this 1.877 carat, G-color, SI-1 clarity, Brian Gavin Signature Cushion Cut Diamond which is a great deal because it falls just under the two carat mark, and there is a major price increase which occurs between the 1.99 – 2.00 carat marks.

The diamond has an overall cut grade of AGS Ideal-0 and measures 8.34 x 6.95 x 5.02 mm with a total depth of 60.3% and a table diameter of 56.8% with a crown angle of 33.6 degrees which is offset by a pavilion angle of 40.5 degrees with a thin to slightly thick, faceted girdle and a pointed culet.

The  primary inclusions are a couple of clouds of pinpoint size diamond crystals, the outline looks pretty large on the plotting diagram, but under a loupe, it’s going to look just like the Milky Way Galaxy, just a bunch of sparkly dust.

Jumping up just a little bit in size and two clarity grades, there is this 1.901 carat, G-color, VS-1 clarity, Brian Gavin Signature Cushion Cut Diamond which measures 8.45 x 6.87 x 5.06 mm with a total depth of 59.9% and a table diameter of 55.9% with a 33.6° crown angle and a 40.4° degree pavilion angle with a thin to slightly thick, faceted girdle and a pointed culet.  The primary inclusions consist of clouds, crystals and feathers… for the difference in price, I’d totally grab the 1.877 carat, G-color, SI-1 because they’re going to look the same to the naked eye and you’ll save a lot of $$$.

The biggest kid on the block at the moment, is this 2.065 carat, G-color, VS-1 clarity, Brian Gavin Signature Cushion Cut Diamond which measures 8.63 x 7.13 x 5.20 mm which has a total depth of 60.3% with a table diameter of 56.3% and a crown angle of 33.6 degrees which is offset by a pavilion angle of 40.9 degrees with a thin to medium, faceted girdle and no culet.

The primary inclusions are a couple of needle shaped diamond crystals, clouds of pinpoint size diamond crystals and small feathers… And if you’re wondering, I’d probably buy the 1.901 carat, G-color, VS-1 over this one if it’s still available and save the money incurred in the price increase that occurs between the 1.99 – 2.00 carat marks, since the diamonds are so close in carat weight!

Of course, if you’re honey bunny needs to be able to say “it’s a two carat” well, this is your best option! And she gets the bragging rights of being one of the first women on the planet to sport this proprietary cut diamond!  You should get at least a dog point or two for that privilege!

Want help selecting one of these patented cushion cut diamonds from Brian Gavin? Just ask, but be sure to provide me with some insight into what you’re looking for in terms of carat weight, color and clarity.
